Now & Then #1

- 11 C Wind chill - 17 C (12.2 & 1.4 F) at 5:00 this a.m.

The sun is coming up over the neighbour's barn roof.

The Blue Jay was visiting the feeder but flew up into one of our White Spruce trees.

----------------------------------------
1981 Churchill River Trip cont.

First camp on the Churchill River....The truck will be driven back to Goose Bay by a friend tomorrow.

The sun sets on our first evening as we look up river from the campsite. The river is much larger than it looked from the airplane. We are about 1 mile below Churchill Falls and the river is moving deceptively fast in spite of how it looks in the photo.

Well, here's the view to the east on our first morning. The water level is up! Our leader estimates it's up 3 or 4 feet above the level it was when he first did the river. It will be his second trip down the river. (To be cont.)

What beautiful pictures! I especially love the blue jay. He is so pretty!

This trip sounds like fun. I'll be checking back to see how it continues.

Thanks for your comment on my blog too!

I'm going to have to go back and read all of your blog; wonderful photos throughout. My butt still conforms to the shape of a canoe seat and some of my best memories are from long, slow trips in the Adirondacks, the Alagash in Maine, and Algonquin Provincial Park. Unfortunately, too far in the past as I write this.

The blue jay is quite beautiful perched up there on the tree like that. So different from our stellar's jays.

I am so glad you documented your journey so long ago. I appreciate the photographs so much. Rivers often look much tamer and more languid than they are actually are in nature!

R, Thanks! Yes, the trip was fun and exciting and....

CB, We missed our week out in the canoe last summer but hope to be out next summer. I spent many weeks in Algonquin in summers past but have not been on the rivers in Maine or the Adirondacks. I've just backpacked when I have been there. Glad you are enjoying my photos and blog.

RD, The Blue Jay is quite beautiful but they are so common that sometimes one forgets to look carefully. I remember the Stellar's Jays from my first trip out to the west coast. It is a very neat bird. I also like the Gray Jays that are out there and in our area, further north.
