February Arrives

February, of our mostly non-winter, has arrived. Most of the day had temperatures above freezing. Some of the willow catkins are starting to pop out of their winter protection.

After taking the willow photo, from the top of a stepladder, I spotted green beneath my feet. The leaf is of a Tall Buttercup.

Our henbit is coming up, along with dandelions... haven't seen any hepaticas yet though...

I keep thinking we're going to get a late winter. Something blustery will blow in and freeze all the tender shoots that are springing out all over the place. We had a snow flurry the other day and temps dropped below freezing for the first time in a long while. Definitely an unusual winter.

R, I saw lots of Henbit and Dandelion leaves but no flowers from them yet. Dandelions I have found in bloom every month of the year but my earliest Henbit, so far, is April 1.

RD, We have snow in the forecast for tomorrow after some freezing rain but the overall 14 day forecast still has lots of days above freezing.
