From my morning walk . . .


Sharp-lobed Hepatica (Anemone acutiloba)


Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis)


Unknown Moth (Any suggestions?)


Milbert's Tortoiseshell (Nymphalis milverti)

I've been seeing photographs on a couple of different sites of bloodroot. I just love how that flower looks. We don't have them around here, at least as far as I've seen, so seeing them elsewhere has been a real joy.

I know absolutely nothing about moths. Sorry!

RD, The bloodroot has done well this season. I have known some years when they came and went in one day.

I have a moth ID now from another friend. He says it is a Forage Looper Moth. He also recommended a moth field guide which I now have on order.

think that moth is "Forage Looper Moth" botanical name: "Caenurgina erechtea", part of the larger owl moth family.
