Caterpillar

I have been looking for Monarch caterpillars but not finding any. Instead I found this!

According to my Caterpillars of Eastern North America book, this is the caterpillar of the White-marked Tussock Moth.

It has a strange look about it from whatever angle or magnification one looks.

Thanks for all the positive comments!

@ So, The camera is a Fujifilm FinePix S7000 with macro and supermacro lens settings. The photo was on supermacro which allowed me lots of room to play with the image on the computer.

Meanwhile, I still have not found any Monarch caterpillars.

Oh, one more thing, I let the caterpillar go on a Comfrey plant when I was finished photographing it and then, about 30 hours later, found it on a shrub about 10 metres (30 ft) away.

If you are looking for monarch caterpillars, you will find them on milkweed plants. It is their only food source I believe. Good luck.
