Notes and Photos - Mostly from Rural Ontario - Occasionally from Travels Beyond
wow, how scary is that? what size is it in reality?
Jimmy said it - that is one ugly bug - so glad I haven't found one in my garden - yet!
I think he's quite attractive - in a buggy sort of way. Excellent photo!
CG, Scary? He is less than the size of a 25 cent coin.J, E, Ugly? Look at those bright orange kneepads.S4M, Thank you, I thought he was rather good looking and he certainly know how to disappear when I put him on tree bark.
I think he's cool in his not-so-shining armour. He made me smile.
ah well, I have no idea what size a 25c coin is so it could still be scary!!
C, Our 25 cent coin is almost the same diameter as the British ten pence coin. Do you feel safer now?
O.W. - that looks like a species of Brochymena. The Brochymena are predatory stinkbugs (Pentatomidae). I often find them wandering around on tree bark or leaves, eating whatever insects they come across.
