Early this morning, well before sunrise, an energetic, early Spring Peeper was singing as loud as it could. Perhaps trying to wake up a mate. It is way to early to wake up. The average date for waking is March 24th.

Some years ago I found some Red Trilliums growing on our property. Shortly after I found them, some deer found them too and ate them. The next year when they did come up, I put a small fence around them. They are doing well and every year we have a few more and I have to keep making the fence larger. Because they have a fence, I can find them in early spring. Here are the first sprouts coming up!

Two more species of birds were seen by birders in Hamilton today so I am looking for them to come our way soon, I hope:

Kildeer & American Woodcock

Friday Flowers & Sit Spot - March 6, 2020

There were 16 varieties of Witch Hazels in bloom at the RBG Arboretum today as well as one in the Woodland Garden next to the Rose Garden. The Skunk Cabbages continue to bloom in the Hendrie Valley and there were Snowdrops blooming in the RBG Spicer Court.

Oh, one more flower was blooming; the female flowers on the Turkish Hazelnut, in the Arboretum, was just starting to bloom. The male catkins are still waiting.

Go to the west side of the Arboretum parking circle and look west for the tree, then look very closely at the twigs as the flowers are very small!
