I started my day with my usual volunteering at the Royal Botanical Gardens then went out looking for blooming plants. The same three plants that I have seen since January were still blooming. Two species of Witch Hazel that are planted in the RBG Woodland Garden are still blooming and the Common Chickweed that I found near an evergreen tree continues to bloom whenever I can find it. I went down into the valley to look for Skunk Cabbage. I got into snow up over my knees and decided that today was not a Skunk Cabbage day but then I heard the sound of the first Red-winged Blackbirds of the season. Spring is on the way!
On the way back home, I glanced over the Hamilton Harbour, which was frozen over, and saw, for the first time in several years, iceboats! I managed to get a few photos with my camera in spite of them being very far out on the ice.
