Rubrum

Rubrum

Acer rubrum is RED Maple. It really lives up to its name at this time of the year! Most of the walnut leaves have already fallen but the willows are still green. Lots of variety in leaf fall happen in the autumn.

Meanwhile, the Red-winged Blackbirds are singing their spring songs when they are not flocking to fly south. Spring Peepers are calling every night and crickets are still singing too. Southern Ontario is not quite ready to say winter.

I really wish I had red maples in my woods!

I don't remember any Maples in Kansas in the wild but do remember some planted ones in Abilene so I guess you could plant some if you really wanted to.
