Gertrude Checks the Gate Lock

Someone told me that goats were not too intelligent but they forgot to tell Gertrude. She always check to see who is coming into the barn and does her best to slip out of the stall if the gate is ever open.

I didn't think I would ever say goats are cute, but yours, well, they are pretty darn cute.

Did you have experience with goats in your youth? All I know are the stories thereof. None led me to believe that I would want to replicate said experience.

Hi Linda, Yes, I think they are quite cute too and, really, the photos don't do them justice.

Anonymous, I have only vague memories of Grandpa Ben's goats. I really don't know why they disappeared so quickly after we moved to the farm but I do remember eating goat meat. I was not too happy about it. Gertrude and Alice will be kept for hair and as weed eaters.

I doubt that Mom had much to do with the disappearance, although a great deal to do with the rejoicing. Perhaps it was just time? She spoke with excessive dislike, and spoke with much vigor even after decades had passed. I've often thought of sheep as weed eaters, but have yet to follow through. As per your goat meat eating memories, well, I couldn't count the number of meals you ruined for your innocent sibling by referring to the pot roast as Sammy. (You knew he was one of my favorites.)

Sammy? Sorry no memory of that but it does sound like something I would have said. I am still talking like that as I don't believe in eating meat very much and it helps remind me of at least one reason why. I gave up being vegetarian a while ago but still try to avoid red meat. I like to keep my chemical intake as low as possible and every step up the food chain seems to add more chemicals these days and it's amazing what cows are given to eat.
