This poisonous Amanita frostiana, Frost's Amanita, grows in our east field every year. It grows right along the path that I mow for walking the dog so we always get a chance to see it at this time of year.

No? OK, Treefrog on a house thinking about its next move. (I missed the photo of it hanging onto the outside of the second story window.)
It's Latin name is Hyla versicolor and yes it can be green or gray.

Early Blooming

Early Blooming
Originally uploaded by Ontario Wanderer

This Witch Hazel (Hamamélis de Virginie) is blooming way too early. It should start around the end of September or early October. Last year I found it in bloom on August 29 and was amazed. This year I found it on August 14.

That being said, I have also found it blooming way too late in past years. Several years ago, while walking on a windy, -20 degree, snowy day in February, I found a witch hazel blooming with the petals vibrating in the winds of winter.

Cup Plants and Thin-leaved Coneflowers in one of our wild flower gardens. There are other coneflowers and a variety of less showy plants also there but unseen in this photo. The moose antler was found on the Churchill River in Labrador and the cow skull was found in a pasture in Kansas.
