Both actually. I went to our west pond to look for fish and found this little guy instead. When I walked to the left side of the pond to avoid disturbing the deer, it followed me.
The deer may be more of a problem this year as the numbers seem to be increasing and they are increasingly bold.
. . . it would have been perfectly hidden.
If anyone know the name of this moth, please let me know.
I have lots of keys to sort out wild flowers but I don't know any good ways to sort out butterflies and moths. I just look for photos that seem to match and then read descriptions. It is a very slow and ineffective way to look.
I was working at photographing a piece of "art" that I am working on and this ant came to investigate. It seemed to like the piece as it spent quite a bit of time there. Something about the beeswax smell perhaps?
Macro of sculpture in progress.
Flickr Project 365 2nd effort:
Different perspective.
Shot this against the sky from a low and close angle. I am not quite finished with this sculpture/encaustic painting project but it's getting close.
An English Plantain helps hold up a large mushroom in the Royal Botanical Garden's Arboretum.
Found this lovely group of mushrooms just standing around at the Royal Botanical Gardens Arboretum in some wood-chip mulch.
Found while driving on one of our local roads . . .
The photo is not wonderful but I did not want to disturb the plant. There are two varieties of Poison Ivy in our area. This one sticks close to the ground. The other climbs to tree tops.
After mixing the medium and the paints, the assignment was to divide the board into white, black and board sections and play with the encaustic paints to see what one could do. This is what I did. So, not a "painting" but a "see what one can do with encaustics" piece of work. Both fun and frustrating!
I worked off and on for three weeks on this little project. OK, more off than on.
This Yellow Goatsbeard has orange spots that I did not see when I took the photo. I wonder if it is pollen or a small orange insect or spider.
. . . I'm hiding behind a Goldenrod.
There has been a doe in our east field almost every day for the last week "hiding" someplace.
Églantine came out to the field to see the deer. I saw the other dear.
We seem to have a lot of deer in the meadows this spring including some newborn fawns.
