The section on the right of the fattest line was not dry when I took the photo so I am hoping it will look more like the left when it drys. If not, I will have to work more on it. I am not liking the dark almost straight diagonal but I am not sure what I can do with it. More time to work on it next week. (It's staying in the classroom and I only have access once a week.)
The Flickr project of the week is to capture motion. I am not too pleased with this one but don't have time to play any more with this idea today.
I was scratching my head looking for real "water" outside in our cold temperatures then poured some water into the dog's water bowl. Before I could get the camera set up, the ice was already beginning to form.
I had an art class challenge. Paint on a 5 x 6 foot canvas. With something this large it will take me a while to finish. (Some of the other students are already finished.) This is the background and the first two "strokes." I've quite a ways to go yet. I made several abstract drawings on paper and then looked at small sections of the drawings in order to set up my idea for this canvas. I am assuming that in the end I can cut the canvas again, if I wish, to change the composition again. Could be interesting. If all else fails, I can paint over it.
Having been a Canadian for over 30 years, I could not vote for Obama but I feel that I helped a bit as I was one of about 30 000 (or 50 000?) to walk with Martin Luther King in his Selma to Montgomery march in March of 1965 into Montgomery, Alabama urging civil rights for all Americans. The falls still had a bit of water falling behind the ice but one had to be closer to see it. It was most evident by sound.
This was a gift from my daughter and family. I was enjoying the way it caught the evening sun just before sunset.

This would not happen today with the wind chill around - 30 C, but it was warmer last Sunday on our Hamilton Flickr Group walk.
Églantine and I went on a Hamilton Flickr Group walk yesterday and one of our stops was at Webster Falls where the spray had frozen on many of the trees and was starting on my camera lens too.
Took the photo through a window at 5:00 a.m. on a snowy morning. The colours are from a snowplough and a passing car on a road about 500 metres away from the house. The squiggly shapes are from hand holding my camera for 4 seconds. That truck seems to sit for several minutes on every snowy morning. I wonder if there is a special time for it to start ploughing. I don't know if it is a Brant County snowplough or a Hamilton snowplough and that road is the border between the two jurisdictions.
I can't remember if I have put this location on Flickr or this blog before. In any case, it is one ever-running tap of the Ancaster artesian well. It runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year from underground "hydrostataic pressure." We stop by weekly for our drinking water. Free! No chemicals! One just has to wait for one's turn as many people come to the same well. There used to be at least 6 or 7 similar springs in our area but all but this one have been closed off due to the possibility of bad water. No "bad" water was ever found but land owners don't want the risk. This one is owned by the Hamilton Conservation Area and is tested often.
A good way to enjoy snow, at - 11, is viewing from our library room window. From this window we have seen and photographed many birds, some deer, and a few foxes over the last few years.

The game was played on our porch just after the freezing rain/snow this morning.
The water in the marsh at Princess Point in Hamilton is shallow so it freezes fairly quickly. So far this winter I have only seen walkers, skaters, and cross country skiers on the ice but usually ice boats come out too before the winter is over.
Églantine and I visited Paris in May of 2004 and took a side trip to Monet's garden in Giverny. It was a wonderful art trip and I have no idea why I have not put up more photos from that adventure. Do you recognize the bridge?

Just a small streamlet with bits of ice on the RBG property. Most of the stream was covered with ice but this little open spot caught my attention.
Our neighbours help keep our animals happy! They visit often and often bring special treats for the herd. We are all glad to see them!
