Cleared For Takeoff
I suspect that this is a White-faced Meadowhawk (Sympetrum obtrusum) but I did not check closely enough to be certain. Better to let it fly free and unidentified is what I thought.
It did not move at first and then did stay on the finger takeoff runway for 3 or 4 photos before taking off.

Flying Jewel
The first Giant Swallowtail (Papilio cresphontes) of the season showed up today along with the first Monarch and the first day of temperatures above 32 C (90 F). I enjoyed the butterflies but not the temperature.
The butterfly moved from some Rue plants, where it had landed, up to a Honeysuckle bush and then posed for about 5 minutes without moving giving me a chance to go back into the house and get my camera.
