On the Way Home

Just returned from a drive of almost 1800 km. For about 400 of those km the road looked a lot like this! Every large truck added more light, fluffy, blinding snow to the scene and sometimes we had 5 or 6 trucks in a row. Only one time was there a fool passing a truck. We were about 6 seconds too late for the head on crash. I am still shaking a bit. Thanks to Églantine for making this memorable photo.

Snow Tracks

Yes, there were a few tracks in the snow yesterday. At first, I did not know what these were.


Then, further along I saw these impressions.



Given the wing marks were about 1 metre apart, it had to have been a wild turkey taking off from the deep, fluffy snow. The snow was so dry and fluffy that individual tracks did not show.

Special Day

There was a strange feel to the day today when I went out in the early morning to walk the dog. It took me a few minutes to figure out what was different and then it came to me . . . it was quiet. It was the first time this month that the wind was not blowing hard from the west. The trees were resting.

Warmer

Yes, it is getting warmer this week, but, as you can see, the balmy -7 C that felt like -16 C with the wind chill has not melted our nearby waterfall too much.
That being the case, I was a bit surprised to see Bar-B-Q's, picnic shelters, and seed packages for sale today in the grocery store. Let's see, we only have to store those seeds until sometime in March to plant indoors and until nearly the end of May to plant outdoors, meanwhile protecting them from mice and insects. Sure, we should buy our seeds now so we can save up money to buy mittens and snow shovels in June.

The west winds are not all bad. Yesterday they helped blow me all the way from Brantford to Ancaster on our weekly long run. I am getting ready for another half-marathon run in early March but am training with runners getting ready for a 35 km run at the end of March so yesterday we ran, walked, ran, walked, ran for 26 kilometres with the winds at our backs and then had some drivers come and pick us up. It was my longest run in the last 15 years. Some days I think about running another marathon but yesterday was not one of those days. I was very glad to see the end of the 26 km and know that I did not have another 16 to do.

Where does the time go when one is having fun? Sorry, I have not been attending to my blog lately.
